FAQ FAQ:
Who ARE you?
Whomever is simple a lover of Avatar: the Last Airbdender who has grown tired of all the bad ATLA fanfiction. And after much conspiring with Booter-Freak, Avatard: the Last MiSTer was created! If you'd like to contact me, take a look at the Contact page.
And in need of an honorable mention is the fabulous Booter-Freak. She doesn't own the site, but had she never told Whomever about MiSTing, this site wouldn't've been thought up. And as well as doing most of the MiSTing on the site, Booter has made most of the graphics and pages.

What is a MiST?
MiST (aka MST and MST3K), stands for Mystery Science Theater 3000, a show that used to mock terrible movies by having a group of comedians make quips/jokes about it while it played. Sorta like the guys who sit in the back of the movie theater. We do the same thing, only we mock bad fics by interjecting our own commentary.
As for why we use "MiST" over the other two, this site was based off of The List, which uses "MiST", and so it became the default.

Isn't that kinda like flaming?
Yes and no. Yes in that it's not helpful to the writer, and mostly is there to make fun of the fic. No in that it's all meant to be in good humor. Just joking around. We're not here to earnestly hurt anyone-this is all done in good humor. Unfortunately, not everyone takes it that way.
Although, unlike flamers, we have sections on the site for helping writers improved.

YOU GUYS SUCK!!1 HOW DARE YOU INSINUATE THAT MY/MY FRIEND'S FIC IS NOT AKIN TO SLURPING THE SWEET ELIXIR OF LIFE FROM GOD'S MIGHTY, RIGID SHAFT!!!11 *$%# YOU!!!!oneone.
I'm sorry you feel that way. But, please realize: Not everyone will like you/your friend's fics. If you are too much of an immature wuss that you can't handle your fic being made fun of, then you have no business posting your fic on public domain, where it can be seen by all.

You guys are complete bastards. You might not realize it, but your MiSTings hurt authors. Do you know how painful it is to see your fic being made into a laughing stock?
As we said before, if you can't take the heat, don't post your fic. Look, in the real world, authors face rejection and ridicule ALL THE TIME. Really, you can't expect to post your fics on the internet, where it can be seen by everyone, and actually *expect* them ALL to be showered in praise. Especially if what you wrote was crap. Blow your nose and get over it.

But these writers AREN'T "real authors"! They're just kids trying to express themselves! Do you want ficcers to stop writing?
WE'RE just kids expressing ourselves too! And anyone who stops writing just because a bunch of nerds with too much time on their hands had fun with their fic should have never started writing in the first place. Get over it.

I still think you guys are total assholes.
Great. You're entitled to feel that way. It's a free domain. Just keep in mind we're entitled to the option of mocking you and posting it for the world to see.

You guys are awesome! I love your MiSTs. Can I contribute my own MiST?
ABSOLUTELY. The more the merrier. Just send it to our address.

Do I have to html/code my own MiST?
When you send it in to me, yes, it has to be coded. If you don't know how to, then you're in luck. I've written a guide to coding which shows all the basics for what's needed in the code. And because of which, if your MiST isn't coded, you will be sent an email kindly requesting that you do so, or else I won't post your MiST.

So should I just send you an attachment of my MiST?
If you want it deleted without a glance, yes. The only way I will accept an attachment is if they're .html or .rtf, and that's it. Otherwise you have to have the MiST in text in the email. All it takes is a command-copy and command-paste, and voila, it's the same as in the attachment.

Aren't you being a little too strict?
Considering how few rules there are, and the fact that this is my site and I have no obligation to anyone to post their content on my site, no, not really.

Can I MiST a fic that's already been done?
Nope. There are plenty of other bad fics out there. Pick another one. You're cramping other people's style.

Can I MiST anonymously?
NO. It's one thing to poke fun at someone's fic, but it's quite another when they can't poke back. Like we said to the fic authors, "if you can't take the heat, don't post". Likewise, if you're too afraid of retaliation to put your name to a MiST, you shouldn't be MiSTing. In order to post on our site, you MUST leave your alias and a way you can be contacted. NO EXCEPTIONS. And for those of you thinking about using a false contact-we *will* be checking.

Can you guys MiST this fic? It really sucks.
Are you kidding? We have our plates full already! Sorry, no requests.

Can you guys MiST MY fic?
NO. That smacks of narcissism, my friend. And how do we know you're not some troll out for attention, hm?

When CAN'T I MiST?
When a fic is no longer on the internet, you cannot MiST it. If it has been taken down, so will your MiST. That is our policy.

EDIT: If the fic was up when you sent your email to Whomever, but by the time Whomever has gotten over her wangst the story has been taken down, then the MiST will go up for a temporary amount of time.

I don't have a MiST to submit, but I have other stuff (fics that do not suck, ideas for original fanfiction, "you've written a bad fic if...") I'd like to contribute to your site.
Well, don't just STAND there, send it to us! We LOVE to receive this stuff from you guys! Just leave your name and e-mail, please.

Hey, I email you sometimes and you don't reply; why not?
Nothing personal, I love the emails I get. I'm just a reclusive person.

If you're the one running the site, why do you keep some of the plurals?
Frankly? I'm a natural follower, and to change everything to 'I' or 'my' or whatnot would be too asserting of myself.

Can I help out with the site?
I'm doing well at the moment, thanks. Feel free to offer though; I write down who offers what, and so when I do need help I know who to ask.

Are there any fics I should be wary about submitting to the DNS list?
Only a few:
NC-17 fics
I don't know if you know already, but I'm not 17 yet. I mean, I've read my fair amount of smut every now and then, but I always knew what I was getting into. If you want to rec an NC-17 fic that does not suck, go right ahead. Just please, tell me that it's rated so, and say who is involved with the story.

Zutara
This is nothing against the ship, especially because the lack of good Zutara fanfiction was what made me jump ship way back when. It's just that I want to keep this section varied, and when every other story that's reccomended to me is Zutara, it's a bit hard to keep said variation.

Your own
There's nothing wrong with reccomending your own stories, and personally I gotta give you points for having guts, but it's just not as impressive. If you really want your fic reccomended, then nudgenudgewinkwink a friend, and so long as they don't say that you had them rec it, I won't be wiser.

Of course, what with freedom of speech, you can send me whatever you want, but please keep these things in mind, especially if you want me to take you seriously.

Hey! How come you turned down [Story B] by Author X when you already had their [Story A] up in the DNS section?
The point of linking to the author's homepage in the DNS section is so that readers can check out the author's other works. Linking to multiple stories by one author would clutter up the section, and possibly annoy the author because of all the emails they would get.
